Our three fibers all have an important job in this fabric. Linen is thought of as the landed gentry of fabrics. It traverses social stratifications of design, mingling comfortably with the most aristocratic of silk jacquards and velvets but is equally at ease in the most humble company of cottons and wools. It also delights in the absorption of dye stuffs, for the most beautiful reflection of color, as does silk, but with a more subtle sheen.
The cotton provides greater strength to the some what fragile nature of linens and helps keep this at a lower price point.
The rayon balances the matte quality of the cotton and reacts differently in a subtle but noticeable way to the same dye formula used for the linen to add a slight variation in color. |
